Line Planting of Fairways – Course Update

Line Planting of Fairways – Course Update

Line Planting of Fairways – Course Update

As part of our ongoing Course Development Plan, the remaining Kaikua/cool-season fairways on holes 4, 12, 13 and 16 will be removed and replaced with Santa Ana. This is an important step in improving long-term playability, consistency, and course conditioning.

The line planting is scheduled for 20 November. Many members will have noticed these fairways looking quite yellow in recent days. This discolouration is the result of a required herbicide application to remove the existing turf before planting, allowing the new Santa Ana sprigs to establish without competition.

Santa Ana establishment is naturally slow and highly weather-dependent. Warm temperatures combined with regular rainfall over the first 4–6 weeks will help drive lateral growth and improve overall coverage.

Please note that these works will require the closure of the affected holes on 20 November, and some ongoing temporary local rules and playing adjustments may be necessary while the new turf establishes.

Thank you for your understanding as we continue investing in the long-term quality of the course.

December Captain’s Report

December Captain’s Report

Monthly Medal

Congratulations to Bruce Rawlings who won December’s Monthly Medal.  A steady start from Bruce saw him nett 1 over after 9 holes.  A par on 11 saw him nett 1 under before a stumble on the 12th.  From there it was clear sailing and with a birdie on 17, saw Bruce finish with nett 68 and win the Medal on a 5 way count back.

Albatross

The 7th Hole has produced it’s 3rd Albatross in as many years, visitor Matt Smith from Woorayl achieved this feat in the Wednesday competition round.

Drouin/Garfield Challenge

The annual Drouin/Garfield Challenge is at Garfield next year on Saturday 18th January.  We have never won this challenge on their turf, so if you would like to be part of history and be in the first team to do this, please place your name on the sheet on the notice board.

Match Play Championships

Thanks to all those who have organised and/or played their preliminary matches.  The final for all Match Play grades is on January 11th.

Family Hotel Challenge

Bob Simpson still holds onto top spot in the Family Hotel Challenge, Mark Gould slightly narrowed the gap but is still 175 points behind.  Glenn Vanderligt, Rob Frederickson and Bob Naismith round out the top 5.  Full Leaderboard is on the club’s website and on the noticeboard inside the clubrooms.

Premier League

The Premier League Final is to be played this Saturday, between the 2023 Premiers FOFO and newcomers The Handicappers.  Best of luck to both teams.

That’s all for now and I’ll leave you with this quote from Major League Baseball Hall of Famer, Hank Aaron.

“It took me seventeen years to get three thousand hits in baseball.  I did it in one afternoon on the golf course.”

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
