Celebrating Two New Life Members: Honouring Decades of Dedication

The 2025 Annual General Meeting was a truly special occasion for the Drouin Golf and Country Club, marking the induction of two remarkable Life Members – Peter Devries and Glenda Warren. This honour recognises their exceptional and enduring contributions to our club, both on and off the course.

Peter Devries – A Lifetime of Service, Spirit and Dedication

Few names are as synonymous with Drouin Golf Club as Peter Devries. His connection with the club stretches back almost seven decades, reflecting a lifelong passion for the game and for the people who share it.

Peter first joined Drouin Golf Club in the mid-1950s, when the course was still made up of sand scrapes. He was part of the early wave of members who embraced the transformation to grass greens under the leadership of Jack Cuthbertson — a turning point in the club’s history.

From those early days, Peter quickly became a cornerstone of the Drouin community. He served on the committee for over 20 years, took on roles as Vice-Captain and Captain, and was a regular presence at working bees and volunteer projects for more than three decades.

Peter’s contribution to course development is particularly noteworthy. Alongside Frank Cobbledick, he helped design the framework of the modern par-72 course layout and led a major tree-planting project that saw hundreds of native trees established throughout the property. Many of these plantings still shape the course we enjoy today.

Beyond his formal roles, Peter gave generously of his time and energy — serving behind the bar, organising green fee players on busy weekends, and helping to create the strong sense of camaraderie that defines Drouin Golf Club. Known for his warmth, humour, and leadership, Peter has inspired generations of golfers through his example.

His legacy is seen not only in the fairways and greens but in the friendships, stories, and community spirit that thrive at our club.

Glenda Warren – Leadership, Generosity, and an Inspiring Legacy

Few members have contributed to the Drouin Golf and Country Club with as much consistency, energy, and heart as Glenda Warren. Her leadership, volunteerism, and community spirit have made a lasting impact across every corner of the club.

Glenda has served in multiple leadership roles over the years — including Ladies Captain for six years, Vice-Captain, Committee Member, Vice President, and now Treasurer, a position she has held with dedication for the past five years. She has also represented the club as a Delegate to West Gippsland Golf and has been an integral part of our Finance Sub-Committee and various Match and Play Committees.

Her contributions, however, extend far beyond administration. Glenda has been a driving force behind the club’s volunteer culture — from assisting in the kitchen and the Pro Shop, to coordinating events such as the Leanne Bambridge Day, Plate Days, Open tournaments, and our Annual Club Championships. She even takes on the humble but essential task of washing range balls every Saturday — a perfect example of her hands-on commitment.

Glenda is also deeply passionate about growing the game. She has mentored countless new members and supported programs such as Ladies Clinics, Get Into Golf, and Give Golf a Go, fostering an environment of inclusion and encouragement. Her leadership and kindness have made golf more welcoming to all.

Through challenging times — including course redevelopment, financial pressures, and the pandemic — Glenda has been a steady and positive presence, always putting the club and its members first.

Her dedication, humility, and tireless service have earned her universal respect and admiration.

A Fitting Honour

Life Membership is the highest recognition the Drouin Golf and Country Club can bestow. Both Peter and Glenda embody everything that makes our club special — community, commitment, friendship, and a love of the game.

Their stories remind us that our club’s strength lies not just in its course or competitions, but in the people who build, nurture, and sustain it.

On behalf of all members, we congratulate Peter Devries and Glenda Warren on this well-deserved honour and thank them for their outstanding contribution to the Drouin Golf and Country Club.
