Volunteers Powering Our Range

At Drouin Golf and Country Club, we’re fortunate to have a passionate and dedicated group of volunteers who contribute across many areas of the club—from the course to the clubhouse and beyond. This month, we’d like to shine a light on a team whose behind-the-scenes work has made a big difference: our Driving Range Volunteers.

The driving range has transformed in recent months, and much of that success comes down to the commitment of over ten volunteers who work in rotating teams almost daily. These volunteers handle the collection, washing, and return of range balls to the pro shop—an effort that has helped turn the range into a profitable and efficiently run operation.

Thanks to this system, we’re no longer running out of balls, there’s been a noticeable drop in theft, and our wage costs have significantly reduced. In fact, the range is now operating with minimal direct costs, making it one of the club’s most effective small-business units.

We’d like to give a heartfelt thank you to some of our regular contributors:
Megan Ford, Richard Ford, Peter Newton, Reg Dixon, Billy Toogood, Greg Roberts, Tim Lawrence, Mike Duddy, Jim Defoe, Gordan Warren, and Eddy Van Der Plight—as well as the many others who have supported the team over time. Your efforts are deeply appreciated and make a real difference to the club’s bottom line.

Building on this success, we’re now looking to assemble a new Room Setup & Pack Down Crew. With our busy calendar of functions, staff are currently spending over 10 hours per week setting up and packing down rooms. We’d love to create a small team of 5–6 volunteers who can assist with this work. Training and templates will be provided, and the approach will be similar to our driving range system—flexible, collaborative, and rewarding.
